About

Heya! I’m Julian 👋

I’m a 17-year-old videogame and technology enthusiast from Norway. I’m the sole writer of Retrograde, a space I’ve dedicated to playing, journaling, and reviewing videogames from various time periods. I’ll try my very best to bring out my personality in blog posts to make it that much more personal; my goal is to not sound stale, bland, and uninteresting!

What is Retrograde?

Retrograde is a personal blog, a pure passion project, where I talk about and review the games I am currently playing. Most of the titles you’ll see me exploring on here will be from older systems (primarily early 3D: PS1, PS2, GameCube, etc…), but I might play some modern games too (I play what I want to play, pretty much) 😉

I’ve been playing videogames for as long as I remember. Even though I’m relatively young compared to the current demographic of these older videogames (the first game I remember playing was LEGO Batman on the PS3), that is exactly the point: I’d like to offer a new, fresh perspective on the games you grew up with. You’ll get to see me experience the games from your childhood the way you did, and that’s the underlying beauty of this project.

Posts will mostly be in the form of Journal Entries and Reviews. Journal Entries are basically… well, diary pages: posts where I share progress updates, screenshots, frustrations, favorite moments, and random thoughts as I play through each retro game. They’re like cozy check-ins from my experiences since the last one, BEFORE I post the final review at the end of my playthrough. This way, you’ll get to experience me experiencing the game, If you get what I mean……

Why did I make Retrograde?

Because I wanted to!

Haha, well, I have this tendency to not finish the games I play, so I wanted somewhere to post updates from my playthroughs and maybe even form a small community around it! This way, I have to force myself to analyze and reflect over what I play, which also makes me connect deeper with the stories, characters, and games I’ll be discovering.

I also seriously enjoy logging/archiving stuff. It’s fun to form a large collection of blog posts, screenshots, and memories that I can look back on in several years.
