First post and introduction!

Heya everybody! Welcome to Retrograde – a passion project where I’ll write about and share my progress in various different retro games!

On here, you’ll find articles in the form of reviews, thoughts, and my favorite thing ever… Journal Entries! Think of them as personal diary pages where I document my adventures through various games. When I feel like I’ve made good progress since the last journal entry, I’ll be sharing screenshots, thoughts, what I like/dislike about the game, emotional meltdowns (probably), and whatever else the game throws at me! It’s going to be very fun, and it is going to force me to analyze and reflect on the games I’m playing, which just makes me appreciate them even more 🙂

What am I playing now?

I’ve been playing Medievil on the original PlayStation lately, and I fricking love it! Honestly? Great little gem. I’ve been adoring my time with it lately, and I actually began playing it on Halloween night for those spooky vibes, and it certainly delivered! I’m excited to share more of my thoughts and my progress with you in a couple of days in the first journal entry, so totally stay tuned for that :]

Below is a screenshot I captured in Scarecrow Fields (an annoying level, but it looks INCREDIBLE!!!)

A little about me!

I’m Julian, a 17-year-old videogame and computer enthusiast from Norway (very cold over here 🥶). I love videogames, but specifically retro games! There is this undefined charm that is present in all older videogame entries, and I can’t quite place my finger on exactly what it is… This blog will be a way for me to experience some of these incredible older games while writing about them and (hopefully) forming a little community of my own! Also, I’m not a pro reviewer or anything – please don’t expect professional reviews on here. I’m simply doing this all for fun! 💙

While I’ll be focusing mainly on retro games on retro systems (primarily early 3D games: PS1, PS2, N64, etc…), I might play some newer games once in a while to freshen my perspective (and because some newer games are cool 😎), but most of the stuff you’ll see on here will be older titles, especially at this point in time. It’s also worth noting that, being relatively young, I never got to experience most of the games I’ll be playing firsthand, so my goal on this little blog is to offer a fresh perspective on games you grew up with!

I’m beyond excited to get started on this little project, so stay tuned for the first journal entry for Medievil in a couple of days (or hours, or tomorrow – WE’LL SEE!!!) 👋
